Amir Khan targets Floyd

English boxer Amir Khan has set his sights on a career defining fight against the Pound for Pound boxing king, the World Boxing Organization or the WBO Welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. who recently defeated Robert Guerrero, describing that victory as nothing but a sheer work of art. The 26 year old boxer from the Bolton region of England is also hoping to put himself back into the frame for a shot at the title after impressing in his points win against Julio Diaz.

It has also been mooted that both Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, who handed him back to back defeats just last year and almost pushed him on the brink of retirement, are possible candidates for a title fight later this year, possibly in 2013. However, the 26 year old is targeting a shot at the WBO Welterweight champion Mayweather Jr. in the long run, whose recent points’ victory against Guerrero has been hailed as a lot more impressive than what Amir Khan did against Diaz.

Speaking to an English newspaper, the Englishman stated that obviously he would love to take on the American, before adding that there is no fighter in the world who aspires to be the best who doesn’t want to take on the 36 year old once in his career. He mentioned that he is absolute awe of him and added that he just couldn’t understand why the crowd was jeering him during and after the match last weekend just because he won on points and not via knockout.

Amir Khan mentioned that Floyd is arguably the best boxer in the world at the moment and if someone is to stand a chance against him, he has to be very speedy and that is the best asset that his fighting can boast of.
